Not a very imaginative shot I'm afraid but the best I could come up with, squeezed between a day
sitting in court and heading out to a talk by a leading child psychologist and writer which our son's school
has organised for parents.
I'd be tempted to open this bottle, a pressie from a friend, when I get home later, but after listening
to a litany of court cases with their roots in the abuse of alcohol, I think I'll settle for a nice camomile tea
instead.
There were the drunken students who got arrested after neighbours called the police to
noisy house parties, the drunken history graduate who assaulted another youth whom he wrongly
thought had stolen his mobile phone, the depressed housewife arrested for drunken driving after having
a glass of wine with her lunch while taking strong anti-depressants, the Eastern Europeans, far from home, arrested
for drunken driving, stealing bottles of wine from supermarkets and being drunk in public. The list went on and on.
And then there were the drug addicts, who no doubt first got their highs on that legal drug - alcohol.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a glass (or 2 or more) of wine but it's a sobering experience seeing the evidence
of the hardship which alcohol can bring to our lives.
