My obsession with photography began with this. It was my first camera, a Christmas present from my parents when I
was about fourteen. There was no focusing, no settings so I guess it was the original point and shoot.
The picture quality probably wasn't great but it captured memories as well photographs. I used it to take photographs of my family and friends, dogs, cats, horses and cows. It captured my days at school, summer holidays in the Gaeltacht, life at collage and my first trip overseas to London.
Eventually, having been set loose on the streets of Dublin with an OM10 one afternoon as the photography module of our journalism course, I decided I wanted something better. When I began working I bought an Olympus Trip and then progressed to an OM10. They were both great cameras and I still have them but I never really got ' the magic of film' as I never processed my own images. Instead there was the wait and the cost of leaving rolls into the chemist to be developed. Of course, that had its own benefit as it taught me not to 'waste' shots and to pay attention to composition and exposure.
