One of the many things I like about Pbase is that it makes me go places to get photographs that I otherwise wouldn't visit.
It has helped me to look at my surroundings and my home town with fresh eyes. Places which have become over familiar to me suddenly regain their beauty when I think of how they might appear to someone seeing them for the first time.
The challenge of getting a fresh picture to post every day means that I have to make an extra effort - although I can't guarantee that I will be able to meet it as the dark days of winter approach.
This morning, after I dropped my son to school, I had 15 minutes of free time before I had to be at my desk. So I drove to Ice House Hill near the centre of town. It's a beautiful park, with mature trees and a lake. It gets its name from the fact that ice used to be stored in a manmade cavern for the occupants of 'The Big House' who laid out the original parkland.
There was a pair of swans, lots of mallards, and some moorhens on the lake. Reaching the top of the hill, I saw grey figures huddling on the grass in the distance, Thinking I had come across a colony of rabbits, I was wondering how I would creep up on them, when as one, they took off and flew to the lake, revealing themselves to be ducks. Maybe I will need distance glasses as well as reading glasses sooner than I had imagined?
There was just time to grab a few shots and enjoy the fresh morning air before making my way to work. What better way to start the day and all thanks to Pbase.
