C : Celtic Cross

This Celtic cross stands in the main street of our village and is one of the oldest of the so-called Fassaroe Crosses. There is a human head on one side and a motif on the other side. There are close links with St. Mochanna and the Celtic foundation in Monkstown. The cross belonged to the Cheevers and Byrne families (linked through marriage), dates from the eighth or ninth century and was used as a boundary marker for the city jurisdiction limits

Great composition! ;)

This would never have stood the test of time here. Kids would have destroyed it, a new housing subdivision would have destroyed it, Wal-Mart would have destroyed it.....whatever. This is great.

I have a loooong Scottish heritage on my Mom's side. Two clans, McNeil and Hunter. Her father's middle name was Hunter. A castle exists in Scotland for the McNeil clan that I would like to visit.
This is a fascinating cross, and story!

Nice shot of this most unusual cross. I haven't come across one of them
before. And such a contrast between the ancient and the modern.
