Standing over the middle of the Atlantic

4 September 2005

We had a number of plans for this beautifully warm - almost hot - late summer Sunday. I was up at the crack of dawn, and ready to head off into the country. Linda and Liam, however, were reluctant to rise. Not to be put off, though, I decided to leave them to get out of their respective beds while I drove off to the supermarket for petrol, newspapers and a couple of pairs of cheapo jeans. I reasoned that they would be up and about by the time I got back. They were, but they were less than enthusiastic about going anywhere. I suggested Lunan Bay. Linda asked why. I said because there is a beach there. Went down like a lead balloon. We had some breakfast and discussed our options. I suggested that if everyone got ready, then we could head off into the Highlands in the direction of Eilean Donan castle. You would be forgiven for thinking I had suggested we go out mugging old ladies. In the end Liam went to the flower show with his friends (one of his friends' dad's is the organiser), Linda sat in the garden reading for her dissertation, while I sat at this desk. Much more exciting than a day trip to Lunan Bay or Eilean Donan, eh! So, to make up for thwarted plans, I have once more delved into my extensive archive for a shot of the middle of the Atlantic (or at least that part of it that flows around Seil Island!)

I was in Arbroath this time last year

Wonderfully attractive composition drawing the viewer ever further from the eye-catching foreground towards the horizon - a really beautiful image. Bravo!

I run into that kind of resistance all the time too. You'd think you were asking someone to participate in a marathon. Beautiful landscape and the perspective with the lines disappearing into the horizon is perfect.

Great composition - love the way the eye is drawn into the picture. Very well done.

J'aime cette fracture, comme un chemin vers le ciel
Un peu comme ma Pad aujourd'hui
La transparance de l'eau, la profondeur de l'image

An incredible vista, beautifully captured. Sorry to hear about the, er, lack of enthusiasm in your house.

I would have thought catching as much summer as possible would be high on a weekend agenda...ah well, your archives are good to see.

Whoops, I forgot to comment on this beautiful photo. The reflection of the beautiful green vegetation and sky is excellent. It makes me want to head out to the end of this little channel and keep going.

I feel frustrated by those kind of days! It's kind of like that around here today. The big three-day weekend, and we were going to go off for a drive and some photo shooting. Instead I'm sitting here in a top and my PJ bottoms, guess I'll work on my Web site. I guess it could be a lot worse!
