I was the only person on the dunes, but I was not alone. My personal assistant, Joe Tripod, was there too, standing solidly in the loose sand. Some people are put off by Joe's rigidity, but I like him for that---if he should ever take up yoga to loosen up, he'll not be the steady assistant that he is. We are standing about 300 feet (90m) above the greenish plain.
