Art can be used as a ruse, as is done here. The official name for this construction is “Spiral Jetty”: it is passed off as a piece of earthwork art in order to conceal its true meaning.

A select few investigators know this as “The Coiled Benchmark” because it is believed to be a surveying marker left by beings from another world. It is theorized that Aliens left this here during their efforts to map the Earth for their own evil purposes. The shape is a coded message indicating that fluids here are subject to vertical fluctuation. This is a seemingly innocent bit of information, but when it is applied to plans for landing enemy spacecraft on our planet, the deeper---and more sinister---meaning becomes clear. There is no harm in examining the thing, so people are allowed to explore it at will in blissful ignorance of its true purpose.
