Accelerating after a crew change

view map

This BNSF train is leaving Wenatchee, Washington following the first of several crew changes on its way eastward. Its load of containers and highway trailers is propelled by four locomotives (count the low-slung gas tanks) producing at least 12,000 horsepower.

I can't help but hear Johnny Cash in my mind. "....I hear that train a com'n, rolling 'round the bend..."

Head unit is 4,4400 hp. Hey this place looks familar?? These units take for ever to load up. I would rather have an SD -40 anyday!!!

Ok,I get it,inside those giant size boxes are 12,000 horses being delivered.Fine,so what's the power output of all those train engines stuck together?

Great perspective. You are lucky to have freight. I've only got passenger trains near me, and the beautiful FL-9's have all been retired.

Heading East!! Great shot Dave.. The run to Hauser is very scene in it's own way and this crew is lucky to have a " Daylight" run which is raely the case!! Vote

Gary, hop aboard the PBase train and express your love of same in a photo gallery. I think I read somewhere that there is railroad activity in San Diego.

I think I saw Larry trying to hop this train. It's a great image! That horsepower is hard to imagine.

You know, i lived in the wrong era. I shudda wudda been a conductor. I had a great uncle who was, back in the fifties, and I have a tiny memory of a time when he let me "drive" the train (all of five feet of so). I LOVE trains!!!

Larry, it's going almost certainly to Chicago; possibly New York. If you can warp space and time (it left in 2003) you might catch it in northern Indiana.

How far east is it going? Do I have time to pack?
