BNSF at Amboy (1 of 3)

view map

On a hazy afternoon a westbound BNSF unit grain train approaches the grade crossing at Amboy, California. It had nine locomotives: four up front, three at mid-train, and two at the tail end.

John, your question about weight is more or less answered in a viewer comment on this page of my Flickr account:http://www.flickr.com/photos/listorama/5281931578/ . (Scroll down to the third comment by Holloran Grade.) He got the information by making an inquiry on a railroad forum page.

How much does the whole lot weigh ?, must be an enormous weight to need nine engines.

I was recently at this crossing when two trains passed, each going the opposite way. I'll have to post some of those pictures.
