I just got the Sigma 10-20 mm for capturing the scenic places where I bird. So far, I'm impressed with its optical performance.

MASSIVE CONCRETE POUR. In the course of 9 straight days in February 2013, we poured 1,845 cubic meters of concrete non-stop via slip-forming to build Northern Cement's huge clinker silo at Sison, Pangasinan.  OUR INDIGENOUS FOOD, IN PLASTIC. Whenever I find myself in my native La Union province (northern Philippines), the first place I visit is the local market to buy foodstuff that I've relished since childhood. The vegies are still as fresh as ever, being sold barely a couple of hours after leaving the farm. But alas, everything is now packed in non-biodegradeable plastic bags, which will eventually clog up our waterways. SIGMONSTER HABITAT - Here's one of the places where the Sigmonster shoots wild birds in Zambales, Philippines. A grassy area in a mini-plateau up the mountains of Masinloc is a goldmine for grass birds, coucals and kingfishers. The sweet early morning sunlight is captured well by the 300D + Sigma 10-20.

Hi Rudi,

I don't have a dry cabinet, and just store my gear in their bags. To minimize problems with molds, I try to use my lenses regularly. Stale, humid air in lenses unused for a long period will be an excellent medium for molds.

I've been to a lot of remote places and exposed to the elements. The only protection I carry against rain are some plastic garbage bags in my vest pocket. Once it rains, I stuff the gear in the plastic bag to protect it from direct rain (but certainly not from humidity in the air). As soon as I get home from a birding sortie, I make it a habit to clean my gear and recharge batteries before retiring.

Works for me so far, no mold problem yet.

Hi Romy,

since you are on my favorite artist list I am taking a look at your galleries once in a while. Actually I have a question. Both of us are living in places with very similar climate conditions. I would like to know how do you protect your expensive gear?
I am very concerned about this, because by now I have already crossed the
"USD 5,000.-- line" and I had a bad experience long ago. I used to have a manual film SLR and a few lenses in the eighty's (OM-2 plus 3 zuiko lenses). In 1988 I had moved to Singapore and shortly after, I discovered that all of the lenses had fungus inside which had spread already all over the glass surface. I do not like to experience the same thing again. My gear is stored in its own cabinet (looks rather like a vitrine).
I take care that at least for some hours during day-time the aircon will run, especially now in Monsun season (rainy season). Now I am planning to buy a "Pelican hard-case container" which is offered for example at B&H NewYork, which is sealed air and water tight. Of course silica-gel has to be kept inside, too.

I am just curious how others are coping with that problem. Your equipement gets surely a lot of outside exposure. Where and how do you keep it when you arrive home?
