These bird come to my feeder in gangs and throw seed everywhere, sometimes 6 or eight at a time. Thanks for helping me identify.

I live in Bertie Co. NC. I've only seen 1 cowbird at my feeder. They sure well with the other birds. I throught cowbirds were ground feeders only.

I saw this bird at my feeder for the past several weeks. Thought it was a cowbird, but didn't know we had them here! Thanks for this site.

is this bird also called the mafia bird for tearing up nests if the egg they laid there is gone

Had a flock of 5 or 6 males visit my birdfeeder today in Central Florida. Did a search, brown headed cowbirds. Very tenacious little guys. Don't get too flustered when the cardinals try to move in. Nice addition around here during the hot days of July. Winter birds have long gone.

I have these also, I've read the Cowbird is a bird that lays it's eggs in other birds nest, then she leaves them for that other bird to tend to.

Just saw our first today -- snow on ground, very cold past four days -- sharing feeder with our local 'regulars'. Very tenacious feeder. Male cardinals tried to shove him away with no success. Heads on ours are a crimson-brown, that glistens reddish hue.

Mystery bird to me until I found your site! Like "terry" I was also mystified being a MD resident for life, I had yet to ever see this couple appearing on my feeder. Apparently it likes my feeder set for Cardinals. Thank you!

Thanks for all of the work. I am so enjoying this collection. I am trying to identify a bird that started coming to my feeder yesterday, actually a couple of them. I know all the regulars, but I don't know if these are juveniles, females or a new species I have not had come to any of my feeders before. I was thinking I would like to photograph them and make a collection, and here you have done it! What a great retirement hobby!

I saw this bird in my yard with a female and had no idea what it was. When it sings the feathers on his head puff out.

Jenny in Parkville.
