I’m a restless soul today – waiting for Thursday. I’ve been feeling guilty all day because today is the first day that I’ve not been working on a ‘working’ day. I’m now a three day a week girl. But in reality that starts next week because I’ve taken holiday this week so that I can be at home on Thursday! I don’t know why I’m feeling so guilty because I did get a lengthy work call today despite it not being ‘one of my days’.
I was flumping around moaning about lack of inspiration and DM said ‘go do a self-portrait’. At first I said ‘no’ because…..well, lots of becauses…..
1. I went to the hairdresser on the Friday before Christmas – a new one in our new ‘home town’ and I was butchered. Yep, the dear soul who cut my hair might as well have done it with a knife and fork as with scissors for all the good she did.
2. I have black bags the size of the channel tunnel under my eyes
3. I have no decent clothes
4. I’ve got about as much self-confidence as a lump of lard
….and these are just for starters!
Then I hit on this idea and decided I could just about face the prospect of facing a camera so I could use it in my story for today.
The dressing table is exactly how it has been since I left it this morning, make-up and junk jewellery everywhere. I have never been particularly interested in fashion or in make-up as such but I do like to feel as though I’ve made my own impression on my face if you know what I mean. Hence my dressing table is a very special place for me. This one is quite the nicest I’ve ever had, partly because of the view from the window (behind the curtain to my right) and partly because it’s really intimate and nice.
I’m a woman who is on tenterhooks waiting for Thursday. I am scared, restless, thrilled and generally very uptight about that day. You will understand why then.
I’ve got plenty to occupy my mind tomorrow – I’ve got an emergency visit to the dentist because one of my two fillings fell out today and then we (the Spurs) are playing tomorrow night and we’ll be in our local boozer to cheer on our boys. So, I have plenty to take my mind off the following day. But for now, all I have to do is worry…..
Think yourself lucky this year, last year's subject was brussel sprouts!
