Copyright © Lewis Scharpf

Dynastes tityus
Male
Also referred to as Rhinoceros Beetle, Unicorn Beetle
Length 2.4 inches including horn.
This specimen had just been killed by a bird which appeared to be a Northern Mockingbird.
Note: massive horns projecting froward from head and pronotum.
This is reported to be the heaviest North American beetle.
