Sawflies (Subfamily Blennocampinae)

K&P Trail

these spiky larvae are not moth or butterfly caterpillars, but larvae of sawflies which are a suborder of Hymenoptera, the wasps and bees. As adults, these creatures will look very similar to wasps, but without the ability to sting.
