Blister beetle (Meloe), female

Mer Bleue area

This very large blister beetle is feeding avidly on dandelion nectar. She looks to be heavy with eggs.

Wow, that is some ugly bug. Can you imaging running into this if it were ten feet tall? Great close up and excellent detail. Vote.

Head in, enjoying the feast and perhaps oblivious to you. I wonder if those blisters are a systematic feature or perhaps, like stripes on a tiger or spots on a leopard, might be used to identify individuals. Excellent photo.

Beetles are not my favorite insects - goes back to my childhood when huge black ones would show up in our shower in Brooklyn - yech - the noise they made when they were stepped on. Of course today I would "rehome" a beetle and never step on it!
