Nightshade (Solanum dulcamara)

This member of the tomato family is a climbing vine, native to Europe but common here alongside trails and waste places. It also goes by the name Deadly Nightshade and Bittersweet. The flowers are a pretty purple and yellow. Tortoise beetles are often attracted to this wild plant as are potato beetles.

Around here I've noticed that wild nightshade flowers always point down, which doesn't exactly make them easy to shoot. Cultivated nightshade flowers don't seem to have that trait. Our nightshade berries are a dull yellow color.
