Checkered beetle (Enoclerus muttkowskii)

Dunrobin area. I was delighted to see this beautifully patterned checkered beetle today. Actually, it found me and landed on my shoulder. Stephen was able to nudge it onto his hand and I got a number of shots before it moved off. Checkered beetles are in the Cleridae family, and while there are many species, it seems that the most obvious ones around here are the ones that are in the rest of this gallery!

Great detail. Somewhat similar to our Thanasimus formicarius

So interesting looking! Love the fine detail, although not sure I'd want one landing on my shoulder ;-). V.
