Warty leaf beetle (Neochlamisus sp.)

Larose Forest. These small rounded beetles are in the Chrysomelidae family, the leaf-eating beetles. When disturbed, they pull in their legs and freeze, at which point they resemble the frass or droppings of a caterpillar. I had to prod this one to make sure it was really an insect and then I put it on my hand to get a better look.

Another fascinating image and interesting explanatory notes. I also like the way you've "expressed" the zoom-in on this small creature using an inset.

I can see how they get their name. Great detail and lovely presentation. V.
