Leech (Macrobdella decora)

This rather large leech was moving across a flooded trail in Larose Forest. At one point, it came across a small bare patch and that is where I got the photo. If you turn this guy over, he has a lovely orange belly (next photo). Leeches are segmented worms in the phylum Annelida. I've seen them often in the ponds and waterways in the forest.

Excellent shot of this creepy critter. I'll never forget getting one on my hand when I was a
child swimming in a river and getting too close to the seaweed. Ugh.
