Calligraphic beetle (<em>Calligrapha pnirsa</em>)

Calligraphic beetle (Calligrapha pnirsa)

I took part in a BioBlitz today near Pakenham, about an hour west of Ottawa. I spent most of the day searching for insects and to a lesser extent plants and birds. It was a lot of fun, saw some interesting areas that I wouldn't otherwise be able to access, and found some neat insects, including this Chrysomelid (leaf-eating beetles).

I'm attracted by the amazing design on its back. Looks like it's a tattoo! Very nice shot.
