Mating Digger wasps (Tachytes), on Swamp Milkweed

There is a colony of these sand wasps at Petrie Island, in, where else, a very sandy area. Sadly, people see these wasps flying around, low across the ground, in groups of 20 or 30 or more and assume (incorrectly) they are dangerous and will sting. They won't! They are NOT yellowjackets. Many, many times I have stood amidst congregations of these pretty sand wasps while they buzz around me with no attempt to sting.
