Purple loosestrife leaf beetle (Galerucella) with eggs

This mating pair of Galerucella beetles is ignoring the cluster of eggs spread along the leaves of the purple loosestrife. Notice the little squiggles on top of the pinkish eggs? The female has deposited a little pile of feces on each egg. Some theorize this is to prevent the eggs being parasitized.
