Well, I came across this image by browsing most popular galleries, and to be honest I am somehow puzzled. I am just not sure why this image receives so much attention or "breathtaking" critiques. When looking at it I see the type of image I have seen plenty of times before, simply composition with a guy on the beach, nice light etc, but I don't find anything breathtaking about it.
Sorry.

superb laine.. what a wonderful play of composition ,lights and shadows..
some thing very mysteriously appealing about this pic( thugh it seems a wee bit blurred)
cheers Laine
LAINE! Why didn't you call me and wake me up for this one???? HOLY COW this is my all time favorite, maybe ever, maybe on the whole past year of Pbase. I'M STUNNED. (Can you tell I love it?) OMG I wish I had taken this picture. Voting and voting and voting again.
Beautiful. I particularly like the way the sea and shore interact to create the jagged border -- with the fisherman bridging the two. I guess this breaks the "rule of thirds" -- and does it beautifully.
At the ebbing tide...no footprints except those of the fisher and a dog! Superb Laine...were you on a jetty? The lighting is just perfect!

What a great shot, Laine! The muted tones of the beach are a great contrast to the bold green and blue on the man. I really like the simplicity and peace of it. Very nice.
