So thought provoking, Laine. One thing I found seriously worrying, when Kate started school in 1987, was the decision to end competition. Life is a succession of competitions.
I fear where our new education mandate is heading. They care nothing about cursive writing or penmanship. I suspect many common math basics will be tossed for the "common" core. Such a "one box" method now.
Technology has its uses but not when it comes to the basics of learning.... And, as for classes on the computer, whatever happened to the exchange of ideas and the verbal discussion, Nice comparison.
I love technology (for the most part) but I can't say that the education systems are better today. We may have information at our finger-tips, but we don't retain much of what we "Google". Oh well... progress, eh?
Amazing comparison to show the drastic changes. Even though there are lots of advantages in our modern and technical world, I am glad I have my memories of how it used to be! V
Whilst I embrace change I do feel that some things are changed for changes sake. Changes in Education are particularly marked here in the UK but standards don't improve much which should be raising questions. Open a book, feel the pages, get involved! Great comparison images.
