A rainy Saturday was a good day to root around in the attic. I found these two obsolete things. The slide rule was my father's, but I never saw him use it. I certainly never used it. The portable typewriter was given to me a long time ago by a man who was moving out of the next-door apartment. I never used it either but kept it because I like the way it looks.

Oh yes, having definition in the typewriter is a stroke of genius!

Exellent eye and shot and great memories. I've had both .. wish I had kept them for memories.

There was a simple magic to slide rules that just isn't there in computers and calculators. :)

Just tiny little keys. What a neat object to have even if obsolute.

I learned math from my father on one and "keyboard" skills on the other. I guess it's all been progress. :-)

Somehow I never used a slide rule, but used to try and work out how my brother's worked. Never had any typing lessons but I remember having to type out meeting minutes - took me 90 minutes for one page if I was lucky.
A great idea, and I even love the brown, no doubt a '70s model!

amazing isn't it . .I've used both . .never liked the slide rule, altho my dad always had his with him. Held on to my electric typewriter for quite a few years, then decided "what for" . . . & off to Goodwill it went. BUT I've kept my mom's old non-electric one. It has a place of honor atop my grandfather's (yes FATHER'S) old Singer tredle.

Younger folk will wonder what hell did we ever use this machine for? Cure, but appropriate message...

This made me laugh having grown up with such archaic instruments. Well done photo.
