new journal

on the red kitchen table

...Isn't this elegant? A white page surrrounded by
a black cover? Is it really simple? I suppose it should
seem simple to merely write in the book -- but it is
daunting!
There is a red ribbon to mark the space .. or to taunt
us that we haven't written much. I have nothing to say?
Does every writer start out like this?? with doubts and
pondering???

(from the first page...of my newest of many journals that
always seem to start this way...)

other sizes: small medium original auto

Great photo!

I used to have notebooks like this with the red ribbon in China.

The Chinese word in the rightbottom corner means "plain and neat". A lot of old Chinese ladies have it in their names.

If anybody thinks it's Japanese word, you need another thinking coming. LOL.
Chinese characters are the root of Japanese.

Nicely lit. In H.S. I had a habit of keeping tedious diaries. Details upon details, yet nothing really personal. Hmmm.

This is an amazingly good photo Jyp. You did a great job lighting it. I have books and books and books of journals (though I no longer keep one) and no matter how many years I kept them and how many books I filled, that new book with that crisp white page was always my nemesis. That's actually sort of how I felt about taking my first photo for this pad gallery. But then again I am fairly obsessional.

Good luck with your new book.

I find blank pages quite intimidating. Quite possibly the most intimidating thing there is, especially when a deadline is approaching (or past)

You're right. The photo is elegantly simple. :)

I like the blank page. It says so much.

I've never kept a journal so I wouldn't know about hard it is to start. How about the date? :)

The first line is the hardest!

Was the greatest of all poems.
Untouched . . . a blank page.

Beautiful shot! It is brave to write those first thoughts but they will only enhance the value of the journal. Good luck!

This is outstanding! I just love the crispness and the red, white and dark grey. As a REAL photograph, it is worthy of a vote!

I write in my journals...I just always seem to start out thinking that I'll have nothing to write and feeling daunted by the pages....
Guest 28-Aug-2004 18:14
Lovely! I LOVE journals, and I'm just like you -- I have several, but I never seem to write in them?? My excuse is I'm looking for that perfect leather-bound journal. Classic colors work incredibly well here.

Terrific shot. Very clean, well lit, and cropped.
And yes, empty pages beckon ... "how do i really feel? ... what do I want to say about that?" ... "do I even have the words to tell it?" ... am I writing for me or for someone else to see someday? .......

I like this! Clean start. I rarely write anymore, used to keep journals for years...now I don't, maybe I should?
