This beautiful intermediate red-tail was only one of many species and varieties of raptors to be found at Malheur in the fall. It became a study in raptors very quickly, and Melanie was happy to blaze off a nice series of this bird from the passenger side of our pickup with the lens resting in the windowsill on a beanbag.
