Last note: Definitely a decticine grasshopper. My guess on the species is just that but I note that it more recently seems to be going under the name Sepiana sepium (different genus name). Maybe someone else - from that side of the Atlantic - can get this for you! Best, Bob Bellinger

It is a decticine (which is why it looked cricketish!) long-horned grasshopper (Tettigoniidae, Decticinae). Adult female and my best guess is that it is genus: Metrioptera and the species: sepium. So, Metrioptera sepium. Good image!

Well, it is a female. It isn't a short-horned grasshopper (wrong antennae and has the ovipositor. Could be a long-horned grasshopper, but hind legs make it look more like a cricket. Not real familiar with the European/French orthoptera. Interesting. Will try to track this one down!
