Project Day 85 - Exile Day 35 - Although the painters are still at work, the highlite of the day was laying the slate tiles in the kitchen. There are two parts to the process. One part is the actual laying of the tile. Two guys are kept busy with that chore. The second part is selecting which tile goes where. That is Ginny's chore and she loves it. Each tile is different in color and texture. So the guys bring a batch of tiles inside and she starts going through them and selecting the tiles to be placed in each position. I went over there about noon and found her almost in a design trance. Her design juices were flowing and she didn't even notice me. I said a few pleasantries and then beat a hasty retreat. Didn't want to break the trance.

Today's photo is of the kitchen which is starting to resemble a kitchen more each day. They have about 60% of the tile laid down. You can't walk on the tile until the thinset dries sufficiently. Ultimately Ginny is going to get some throw rugs to place in front of the sink and cook top to protect the floor. I think there will also be an area rug for the dining area. Slate is soft and grinding chairs might play havoc with it.

Tomorrow promises to be more of the same. The painters are finishing up staining baseboards and also painting walls in the upstairs. Maybe, just maybe, they might finish by Saturday. They have already put in 12 days.
