It was a rainy, windy day. Most of what we had on the list for today was fortunately inside activities. We headed up to Bonavista and toured the stuff there. I always find lighthouses interesting. Cape Bonavista Light was pretty cool. Now wait a minute, I am not obsessed with visiting every one in North America, but I take the opportunity to stop in if they are on the route. What made this one cool was the parabolic reflectors. I actually learned something here. Parabolic lights predated fresnel lights. Who woulda thunk. I certainly didn't. What was really cool was the original lights and clockwork were in perfect working order. Some day, when I am rich, I am going to rent this lighthouse for a night just to see the damn thing in operation. Currently, there is an electric beacon on a tower serving for the lighthouse. It looks just like an airport beacon.
We spent the afternoon in Bonavista touring the Ryan Premises, the Matthew reconstruction and the Mockbeggar Plantation. The second highlight of the day, behind the lighthouse, was a great lunch of fish and chips at Skipper's.
