We spent the day doing activities in Talkeetna. We started out at the Sun Dog Kennels, a place where the owner does the Iditarod race. As you may know, this is a dog sled race from Anchorage to Nome. He has about 60 dogs which he cares for and selects 14 for the race. It was interesting to see how he trains them. It was also interesting to hear his description of the preparation for and the running of the race. It sounds to me like a lot of work and a lot of expense. One fellow figures the base cost for competing is $60 thousand. These guys do love the competition and the dogs.

At lunch time we went to the West Rib restaurant for a sit down meal. Ginny ordered a halibut sandwich with fries (that's chips, John) and I had a nice bacon cheeseburger.

In the afternoon we took a jet boat ride which was fun but not very informative. Not a single critter sighting. We did go ashore at a place where our guide could show and describe the lifestyle of the natives and the trappers. They had two camps set up representing each. That was pretty interesting.

We dragged the gut in Talkeetna one more time before heading to the hotel. That didn't take long because it was after closing time for the shops Ginny would be interested in.
