We did some traveling and sightseeing today. Our first stop was Skyline Caverns. It turned out to be not very interesting and rather expensive. The second stop was Staunton, VA, the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson. I have to admit that Wilson is not a President that I know much about. The home was interesting and the little museum was pretty good. Although he did many things during his two terms, there are two things that happened I found noteworthy. The 19th amendment was passed giving women the right to vote. The Volstead act was passed starting prohibition. To Wilson's credit, he vetoed the act, but the congress overrode his veto in one day. Then we were off to our hotel in Bedford via the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a slow drive because the road is very curvy. There were numerous overlooks, but just about if you have seen one you have seen them all. We got into our hotel after dark and enjoyed a Walmart salad we picked up along the way. |
