First Unitarian Church at the corner of Benefit and Benevolent Streets, Providence. The third incarnation on the site, this church dates from 1720 and was heavily inspired by the architecture of James Gibbs, particularly St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London. It boasts the largest and heaviest bell cast by Paul Revere & Son, Canton, MA.
In 1966 lightning struck the tower and started a serious fire, but thanks to the building's stone wall and heavy timber construction, damage was superficial.
