Augustus Munroe Boyd was another son of James Boyd and brother of Capt. Julius Warren Boyd. Munroe, as he was called, was a surgeon in the Civil War. Returning home he was displeased with the way carpetbaggers had come in and disrupted the economy and way of life. He took his family to Mexico, gained favor there, and was given exclusive export rights to chicle (chewing gum). He did big business with Wrigley and others back in the States and was very successful. The family bought their own island! Another fascinating story of the Boyds of old Telfair County.
