He was a son of James Boyd and brother of Dr. Augustus Munroe Boyd (see next picture). He returned home to his plantation, Deerland, on the south side of the river. It was in old Telfair County until 1854 - then it became part of the newly formed county of Coffee. Little Susie Boyd, his father's sister, died at an early age. Passing by old Fort Clark, on their way to a new home, hers became the first grave in the Blockhouse Baptist Church Cemetery. Her life span was 1812-1819.
