Brookwood
When built in the mid 1850’s, Brookwood Cemetery was the largest cemetery in the world, having been built to meet the demand that London could not cope with. At that time, special trains ran from London Waterloo to station platforms within the cemetery – the remains of the southern platform still exists.
My local area is certainly a hot bed of mortality, as adjacent to Brookwood Cemetery is a military cemetery and within walking distance from my house is Woking Crematorium, the oldest in Britain.
The monument illustrated here is apparently in memory to a Princess, but beyond that I have no detail.
