Extended Play

1963 – my best mate at school is cool for two reasons.
First, his dad has a “High Fidelity” record player.
Second, he has older cousins in Liverpool who tell him about a group called The Beatles.
I’m not cool but my Grandfather gives me a 7/6 postal order for Christmas
which on my friend’s advice I spend on ‘The Beatles Hits’ E.P. (extended play).

My Grandfather (otherwise my all time hero) says “what a waste, that rubbish music will never last!”.
But the sleeve notes on the E.P. confidently predict that this new group will still be popular in 1973!!

My ambition is to get this relic signed by Sir George Martin who lives in the nearby village of Coleshill.

Others being musical are here

Wow, 45 RPM. That is an extended play. 78's are too small. Now that are great songs. Very nostalgic shot.

I was a HUGE Beatles fan. In fact, I had a severe case of "Beatlemania" which lasted for years, and I still enjoy their music.

Just remembering the days when they were interviewed on 'Woman's Hour' as a promising new act. They were really cutting edge for the Light Programme back then!
