In Need of a Facelift*

Trentham, Staffordshire

Went for a family stroll in the hot sun around Trentham near Stoke-on-Trent today.

This is the old ballroom which was the venue for the big 'gigs' in Stoke for decades.

The Trentham estate was originally the property of the Dukes of Sutherland.

My Great-grandfather was a forester on the estate but with 10 children to feed

left to work in the local coal-mine tending the ponies

- for an extra two shillings per week (that's 10 English pence / 18 US cents!)

My Grandfather, Father, Uncle and Cousin all worked in the same pit after him.

(* The building needs a lick of paint too!)

Great shot John it looks like a building full of history and I bet it could tell a story or two? Lovely image of you both too!

Very mediteranian-looking, and with you two in front it looks even more like a holiday shot! The wonderful weather we are having at the moment helps too!

Fascinating piece of family history! Must be cool to walk in the footsteps of Great Grandfather. Such a magnificent building back there!

I wonder if all PBasers chipped in, could we buy this place and return it to its glory?
Good to see you and your charming mate.

Good to see you two John (and Sue). Only the building needs a face lift. Fascinating story and the history of your family.

Nice to see you. The building looks sound, just needs some tlc.

I sure hope that you mean the building needs a face lift, not the two of you...lol.
Great architecture, I'm sure a paint job would work wonders.

Hi Sue! Hi John!
No face lift necessary on the youngest subjects of this portrait, but I know a good place for some R and R if you're interested :)
