Path to the pole

4 August 2005

Remind me never to do that again... take six carloads of wood and old toys, carpets, bikes.... etc., etc., to the recycling centre. I am aching all over, and am not even half-way through. Unfortunately, I have to start all over again tomorrow, in the hopes that I might get it finished before Craig comes up on Monday to level off the ground and take away a small wall in preparation for the gravel coming. Talking about digging, I hired a mini digger today, and it arrives on Monday. Craig's going to teach me how to operate it... that should be fun. Liam and I have actually had some fun today working in the garden. We went to the trade shop and bought a new wheelbarrow (for £10), a 6x4m tarpaulin (£12), 250m of rope (£6), protective gloves (£4) and Liam decided he wanted a shovel that is insulated to withstand electric shocks up to 20kv (which cost a shocking £30, compared to £10 for the normal wooden handled shovel). Anyway, clearing the garden is taking a long time - it is just as well the recycling centre is quite nearby! While Liam was at his guitar lesson, I drove down to Kingoodie, where I wandered around at the old abandoned workshop (which I have photographed several times before). It certainly is a neglected building with lots of interesting nooks and crannies for the dedicated amateur photographer. Since I will probably not have much chance to get out in the next few days, I will use some of the images that I captured today. In the meantime, however, here is one that I took at the shore beside the abandoned workshop. I don't think I would trust my life to these corrugated iron rafts!

It doesn't seem like a year since I was at Lintrathen!

Fantastic capture. Would not want to walk to the pole myself. The B&W treatment is perfect.

Stu, this is the best I have seen of yours. Absolutely love it, Great graphics and very thoughful. But I note you did not buy that waste management exemption to go with the digger. And you think I am joking....

A friend of mine told me that Penn & Teller have some segment where they research recycling and determine that all recycling is more costly and more dangerous for the environment than not recycling.
I love this path to the pole. Looks like some of the pieces have been misplaced.

It does look like the north pole! I agree with the others you seem to have your work cut out for you. Will be interesting to see the outcome of your project.

LOL at the image Jim's got going. What in the world is at that pole that someone would risk body and soul to get to?? Is it a boat tie off?

It sounds as though you've begun quite a project, Stu. I can't wait to see the results.

Stu, The sea is not a recycling centre ... the sea is not a recycling centre ... ;)
