Whilst London is rightly described as a city, in municipal terms, there are two areas that are officially cities. The City of London incorporates the traditional financial and legal districts, whilst the City of Westminster lies to its west and contains much of the so-called West End which is better known for its retail and entertainment businesses.
The headquarters of the BBC also lies within the City of Westminster, a few blocks up from Oxford Street. This is Broadcasting House, an art deco structure built in 1932. More recently, extensions have been made to the building and the whole complex contains radio and TV news studios, as well as offices.
