Sawfly larvae (Trichiosoma triangulum)

Gatineau

Two large fat larvae in the Cimbicidae family. They will feed on alder, poplar, willows amongst other species. I found these on willows. Sawflies are NOT flies despite their common name! They are actually in the same family as wasps and bees and the adults look like wasps, minus any ability to sting.

Not a loving embrace I imagine; perhaps competing to get to the food? Delightfully composed.
