27th - Chalk & Cheese

near Coberley, Glos. view map

I really struggled to find a 'proper' chalk and cheese scene, but Serendipity strode up and whacked me on the head with this one - not so much chalk and cheese I admit (although there is some here) but certainly juxtaposition and incongruity!

Here we were, out for a lovely autumn stroll across the hills, far away from it all and becoming more & more relaxed and at peace with the world, when we trip over a discarded can of Red Bull...! Now then I may not have lightning-quick reflexes, but even at the time, the thought of deliberately getting yourself hyper and fizzed up out in the fields and byways of the deepest darkest Cotswolds did I must admit, defeat me. And still does...

Finn ventured that it might have been runners or some sort of athletic types needing a bit of zap! and kapow! as they struggled up the hill; maybe, but I can't imagine that sort just chucking the can away...they'd be much more green, and would probably use proper drinking bottles or those camel-sac back-pack drinky thingys.

Bizarre! And still has me stumped a couple of days later!

it bugs me when I see discarded things like this.. but well photographed!

Yes you are right. This is so sad!!!
Excellent capture. DOF is brilliant.

Love your commentary. Here was me thinking you'd picked a Red Bull can because it was supposed to give you wings, and here it is lying blotto on the ground.
I'm sure runners are capable of this vandalism too, they just want to get on with their race.

I don't like seeing litter in beautiful places. I don't understand people who do that.

Excellent!!!
both in photo and in words
Enjoyed both!

Great idea for this subject and terrific photograph. Here we have that redemption value for 25 cents. so actually somebody would run behind, pick it up and cash it in!

Well done with a tricky topic... so annoying to see a beautiful bit of nature spoiled by someone's deliberate carelessness.

Great chalk and cheese, mom nature and man's trash. Well done, like the dof.

My theory... some bloke's wife nagged him to get out of bed and go on a hike with her. He was tired and mad, would rather stay home and watch football. But, he owed her some time and dragged his sorry ass out of bed and went on the walk with a can of Red Bull to help. He didn't care about dumping his garbage, he was on a mission.

Definitely!

Ah, there's just no accounting for the loutishness of the British scumbag!

Red BULL gives me wings!! LOL Is there anymoe left?

Nicely shot, Doug ... this reminds me of a project I did for a college class over a year ago to document a park clean-up.http://www.pbase.com/bellanundo/two_rivers_clean_up It's amazing to me the laziness of people (and blantant disrespect for environment and other people). Great shot for "chalk & cheese," though! Thanks for getting us all riled up! ;-)

This sort of thing get's me into full on grumpy old man mode. I hate litter!

Good choice for chalk and cheese and nicely shot with this depth of field. Perhaps the redemption value for the empties needs to be raised in your area. Also if one was to fill a camel-sac back-pack drinky thingy with red bull there might be some nasty side effects such as a heart attack etc. and the run could well be extended to include parts of Scotland.

Very good, Doug.. the others have expressed it well

I'll second all that Laine has said!! Something like this baffles me completely!
laine27-Oct-2009 18:00
Oh don't get me started on people & their bad habits, please. I agree with all that's been said...

Our way of thinking & their way is chalk & cheese enough !!
Guest 27-Oct-2009 17:51
Well spotted,Doug. It really amazes me that people can dump their litter in the countryside but maybe they are the very people who campaign against a rubbish tip in their area! I wonder what would happen if you threw a can in their front garden?!!
Bernard Davis27-Oct-2009 17:51
Yes agreed.
Great dof control by the way.
Kevin Chester27-Oct-2009 17:31
don't they want a kick up the arse for droping litter like this. They wouldn't need redbull to give em wings if I had my way . Fine representation.
