What would Jane Austen make of our
modern reading habits?
Discuss.

This week, it is 200 years since 'Pride and Prejudice' was first published.
Not one of my favourite books, by a long way; but it has had a
major impact on our cultural world, ever since.

I think she would be rather surprised by the popularity of her work these days, and even more surprised by the many film / TV adaptations.

Jane Austen, I do love this particular book, and its great to have a paper copy.
But e-books allow us to carry more with us.
I also like well produced Audio Books
We must not forget the Film version
What would Jane have thought over so many versions?

Since I bought an e-reader I have read more books than I have in years so I would hope JA
would be in favour. Must read more classics though!

We will never know, we do know many like e-books and many do not. I am one who does not. I like the tactile feel of a book, and I like to see it on my shelf when I am finished and look upon it as a work of art.

I'm one of the legion of JA fans, though not as dedicated as some! I rather think she'd be pleased that her books are still being read, and I think she'd have some pithy observations to make on that and on our modern reading habits. In fact she might enjoy e-readers (I don't, I loathe them!). V

Thought-provoking. I'm a firm believer that the act of reading is more important than the presentation of the written work. So whether one reads traditional printed books or the newer fangled ebooks, it doesn't matter. They can both serve a function in the life of the dedicated reader.
