Mutton stew with potatoes ('ragoût d’agneau dans les mottes'), is a traditional island dish.
It is slow cooked in peat (there never was much wood on Ouessant), 'cuit sous la motte'.
The stew is left smoldering all day. The dish is then ready in the evening.
Today it can still be ordered from shops in Lampaul, who will deliver at home.
