Forget a visit to the US Botanic Garden

The extensive fencing around the US Capitol area has cut off access to one of Washington’s treasures, the US Botanic Garden. I certainly hope that changes in the future.

*****

We drove down towards the Capitol to see what the area looked like six weeks after the insurrection on Jan. 6, thinking that perhaps some of the security precautions had been removed. Instead, what we found was even more fencing and security measures to prevent the public from getting anywhere near the US Capitol, congressional offices and federal buildings. Quite frankly, I was appalled to see the extent of it – three miles of fences.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Here they come, ready or not, posted earlier:

Well that's upsetting to learn!

Even that is walled off. I can’t see the purpose of all of this. I don’t know if it’s keeping us safe or almost imprisoned. V

I thinks it's time to restore things as they were, the point has been made.

That is really a shame. I wonder when or if things will return to the days before Jan. 6th. V

It makes one wonder when all this will end. So sad to know wonderful places are not accessible.

Oh dear. The conservatories look most attractive - hopefully public access will be restored. V

That certainly is sad Helen. Hopefully things will return to more normal soon.

Indeed a great pity that the botanical garden can't be visited. V
