That face

I wish this were a little sharper, but I do find their faces fascinating, so here he is anyway.

*****

I had planned to end this gallery, but we went back to the 700-acre Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C., to take another stab at photographing one of the resident herons. Along the way to the marsh we saw lots of other things, including more lotuses, water lilies and dragonflies.

Rich in nature and admirers, posted earlier:

Nikon D850 , Nikkor AF-S 300/4E PF ED VR
1/320s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso160 full exif

It's a fine image. and I think the point of focus is sharp. You have extremely limited DOF with a long lens close up!

certainly a charmer of a different order...manual focus is usually the way to go, but you have to be quick..

Great image, the details look sharp to me, especially on the wings.

Fine shot Helen, I tried once but failed time after time.
Isabel Cutler06-Aug-2018 19:07
Probably locked focus on the face - a smaller aperture would have had more of it in focus. I love how daintily it's posing.

Love the green face on the blue body.
