'Hooded Grasshopper,' by Vishwanath Birje

“Hooded Grasshopper,” Goa Forest, India, by Vishwanath Birje, Goa, India. This image was “Highly Honored” in the NPB Asia Small World category.

Says Birje: “It was very difficult to find this nymph grasshopper amidst tree leaves because it was so well hidden. The color and texture of the leaves was exactly the same as its body. … Nymphs and adults of this species are typically green; however, colors vary depending on an individual’s age, environment, and other factors.”
