Flooded Parliament from Margit Bridge

In the distance is visible the Chain Bridge, which looks to be sitting perilously close to the water. It's not a high bridge, but it certainly isn't normally this low.

I have been processing these images pretty quickly since, working for a newspaper, this is like breaking news to me and should be published as soon as possible. We're heading out now to see what the situation is today.

A local news report said this about a spot on the Buda side where we were photographing yesterday (good thing we didn't wait until today to go because we couldn't have gotten there):

Budapest, June 8 (MTI)

Bem square and surrounding streets on the Buda side of the capital were flooded after a downpour on Saturday afternoon.

Mayor Istvan Tarlos told MTI that the water stood nearly one metre high in the square, because high water levels on the river Danube prevented drains from channeling off the rain.

Tram services 4-6 and 19 have been stopped and cars were swept aside in the flooded

Tarlos said that all pumps were working to remove the water and added that the situation could be resolved by 6.30 pm.

The municipal disaster management authority said earlier that the area was covered with water because of Saturday's downpour rather than a broken dyke along the river.

A beautiful building. I hope the flooding didn't ruin anything. The river certainly does look high. Excellent documentary shot. V
