Top Image: I found the male Woodpecker still hard at work chiseling out the nest cavity. In this image he is taking time out to check, perhaps what the clicking noises from my camera were, even though I was quite a distance away.


A batch of shavings sent-a-flying.


Another beak full heaved out the window, I mean door.


After chipping for a half hour or so, it is time for a coffee break and some fresh air.


He stays out for just a few minutes, then moves aside so that I can get a quick shot of the enlarged interior before he gets back to work. Perhaps he wants a picture to show to the Missus.

Note:Considering the size of the cavity, it is no wonder trees often snap or break off at Woodpecker cavities as they would considerably weaken the trunk and as well let in moisture so rot will set in.
