My first shot of a juvenile Killdeer running around, and can it run. I've seen young in a nest before, but usually once they leave the nest, my experience is that they remain well hidden whilst Mom and Dad do their best to distract any intruder coming close to the area where the young are kept. In this case, there seem to be several broods of young hiding in low bushes along a river sand bank. It seems that this little juvie had disobeyed Mom and Dad and had ventured out onto the beach on its own. One of the adults was frantically trying to herd/entice it back to its hiding place whilst the other did its broken-wing act in an attempt to lure me away from the young one.
